One of the hardest parts of leading a creative life - for me - is consistently presenting my work in a unified portfolio. My experience and passions are diverse. I hope that this website can serve as an extension of my creative journey.
history
I am a Canadian American artist focused on growing connections between artistic disciplines. I am the founder and Artistic Director of The Purple Stapler Arts Society, in Vancouver, BC, Canada while resting my head in Seattle, WA, USA; work with ZenChange Management Consulting as a Marketing Analyst; and am an MFA student in Seattle University's Arts Leadership class of June 2018. With graduation around the corner, I'm looking forward to having some more time for creating art.
As a writer and photographer I have seen my work published by: the Georgia Straight, Tofino Times, The Gazette, Westerly News, Daily Hive, Inside Vancouver, Do604, Vancouver International Film Festival, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, TRANSlations, Aeriosa, TWIST Seattle Queer Film Festival, and more.
I have also had the privilege to see my work as a playwright (Divided Allegiance / The Retirement Party), screenwriter and director (In Need of Caffeine / Yes, Obviously / Water is Life) produced and presented internationally.
Upcoming projects include a trilogy of short films; feature length nature documentary; book of photojournalism; and an interdisciplinary artist resource book developed through my thesis research.
philosophy
My mission is to facilitate creative activism across multiple disciplines in order to empower a more compassionate society.
How? By continuing to learn and live by my values of Authenticity, Compassion, Equity, Creativity, and Professionalism.
What is creative activism? "Human salvation," Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. argued, "lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted." I believe in the power of art to innovate, that it's role in society is to promote reflective thinking - of the past, present, and future - so that we can learn and make the world healthier.
What do I mean when I say, facilitate? To create, share, teach, provide opportunities for, and inspire others; it relates to the concept of dramaturgy in theatre. It isn’t my job to judge the work but to help it be what it needs/wants to be – as intended by the playwright/creator - and this includes learning to accept myself.
